Lise Place, Board President, 2010-2012 Lise is in her second year on the SRA Board. She is a native of Burlington, WA and learned to row in the intramural program at the University of Washington, moving on to Union Bay Rowing Club and then to the UW crew for her junior and senior years. After a 23 year break from rowing, Lise found SRA in the fall of 2007 and has been having fun with the SRA Rosies ever since. Lise graduated from Santa Clara University Law School in 1988 and practiced civil litigation with Wilson, Smith, Cochran & Dickerson in Seattle for twelve years before leaving the practice of law to be home with her kids and to take on a variety of volunteer positions, including serving as an advisor for the Issaquah High School FIRST Robotics Team. She is married to Barton (who rowed at Stanford, class of 1983) and they have a son, John, a student at Western Washington University, and a daughter, Ellie, who rows with the SRA Jr. Girls. Patrick Eames, Vice-President, 2009 – 2011
Patrick is serving his first term on the SRA board, elected in 2009. Patrick is an Eastside native, graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in Applied Computation Mathematical Sciences and from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a Master of Science in Technical Management. He currently works at Boeing as an computer scientist, heading to work after his daily row at 5:00am. Patrick has travelled five times to the Head of the Charles regatta with his teammates from the 5:00 Masters Team class, earning a third-place medal in the Men’s Master Four in 2009. He brings technical knowledge, analytic skills and a long historical prospective of SRA rowing to the Board. He has been the head launch volunteer for the past two years, spending much of his free time dedicated to fixing and maintaining our safety boats. Patrick is married and has three children. Anne Corley, Secretary, 2011 – 2013
Anne Corley is in her first term as board member, elected in 2011. She has been rowing with Sammamish since 2008 and joined the mid-morning competitive team in 2010. She graduated from Georgetown University in 1985, speaks several languages, and has lived in Brazil, England, and Egypt. In her professional career, Anne worked as a technical writer on the space shuttle program, first with Rockwell International and later with Boeing. She then moved to the entertainment industry, working as director of corporate communications for 20th Century Fox, VP of corporate communications for MGM Studios, and VP of public relations for Univision Communications, America’s leading Spanish-language television network. Retired from professional work to focus on family, Anne volunteers with church, school, and SRA. She rewrote the new-boathouse section of the SRA website and developed a set of brochures to promote SRA and the new boathouse to the wider community. Updated February 2011
Nick Benson, 2011 – 2013
Nick is serving his first term on the SRA board, elected in January 2011. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Nick moved to Seattle in 2000 to attend the University of Washington and pursue a degree in Computer Science. Always watching the Huskies row from afar, Nick took the plunge and decided to try rowing with the Sammamish evening competitive team, and has been hooked ever since.
Nick has worked at Microsoft since graduating from UW in 2004, currently employed as a test development lead within Windows. Nick brings a special passion for recruiting new rowers that are fresh out of college, along with strong project and people management skills to the SRA board. When not rowing or working, you can find Nick pursuing one of his many other hobbies: biking, running, skiing, rock climbing and photography. James Conlu, 2011 – 2013
James is serving his first term as a SRA board member, elected in 2011. He graduated from Purdue University with an Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering Degree and worked at Boeing in the the late 90′s before moving to the Connecticut to work for Pratt & Whitney. He moved back to Seattle in the fall of 2004 to work as a structural engineer at Boeing. James started his rowing career at Riverfront in Hartford, CT in 2000 and joined SRA in the fall of 2004. He rows with the 5am Masters Team and has completed USRowing Coaching Level I and coaches Adult Learn to Row I & II and Adult Novice crews at SRA. Outside of rowing, he enjoys running, cycling, skiing, and photography. Updated August 2011
Robert Dahlgren, 2012 – 2014
Robert is serving his first term on the SRA board, elected in January 2012. A Washington native, Robert was water skiing with a friend on Lake Sammamish in the spring of 2009 when he saw a collection of rowers near the slough and thought it looked like something worth trying. He got hooked during Learn to Row 1 and became fully addicted after joining the Evening Competitive Masters team. It took another year and a half, but Robert completely gave up basketball and now encourages others to make the switch to rowing and save their knees while enjoying a competitive yet supportive atmosphere. Robert holds a BSEE, MSEE and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from U.W. and is a partner at Jet Set Labs in Redmond where he consults in the software and electric power industries. Robert brings a background of technical project management and accounting skills to the SRA board. Outside of rowing, Robert has a passion for mountaineering, cross-country and downhill skiing. A Seattle native and UW grad, David Rind began rowing with SRA in 2009 as a member of the Evening Competitive Masters class. David has served on and chaired numerous non-profit boards for over 25 years, locally and nationally. He is the parent of three children; a son who lives in New York, a daughter who lives and works in Seattle (and coxed for SRA in middle school), and a son who has autism. A movie buff and reader, he enjoys travelling and spending time with his lovely wife and fellow board member, Celeste. Currently chair of his trade association, David owns a business importing Australian and New Zealand beef to the USA. Updated February 2011
