SRA Proclamation

Hear Ye! Here Ye!

Today (Tuesday, January 15th) Redmond Mayor, John Marchione, will be reading a proclamation to the city government officials and council members honoring SRA’s contribution to the community and highlighting many of our incredible successes this year. We have been asked to fill the chambers with SRA rowers, fans, and family to show how much of a presence we have in this community. Please join us at 7:20 pm in the lobby of Redmond City Hall for a photo and then we will proceed in to the chambers for the proclamation at 7:30pm. We hope to see you all there in your red, white and blue!

Talk about Building Futures

Our 2012 gala was a huge success! We brought in a total of $131,000 in donations including a generous matching grant of $25,000 from King County. We are still hoping to hit the $150,000 mark before the year is out and want to remind everyone to check with their places of work to see if they do matching for donations.

This evening would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our volunteers who put so much in to planning, organizing and running the event. We are very lucky to have such an amazing and talented group of people in our SRA family.

A special thank you to our Gala Committee: Ace Martin, Anne Corely, Elise Kelly, Janine Jacobs, Marilyn Polis, Marilyn Proby, Melanie Cossette, Page Robinson, and Patty Jordan.

Bob Espeseth Update

This weekend at the Portland Fall Classic, SRA lost a loyal friend and supporter. Bob Espeseth, husband of mid-morning competitive rower Cynthia Espeseth, was struck and killed by a car while watching Cynthia row under a bridge in the women’s 8+. Bob was a frequent presence at regattas, cheering on Cynthia and her team.

Cynthia and her family have requested that donations in Bob’s memory be made to the new boathouse. An option to contribute in Bob’s name has been added to the Donate Now link on the SRA website or you can follow this link. Our rowing community is invited to attend and celebrate Bob’s life on Saturday, November 17th at 11am at the St. Mark’s Cathedral.

The entire SRA family extends its deepest condolences to Cynthia and her family. Rest in peace, Bob. We will miss you.
