SRA will once again offer our “Junior B” program this summer! This program is intended to help develop our younger athletes by giving them dedicated rowing coaching in a smaller group and the experience of racing at a national-level regatta. Here are some important notes and scheduling information:
- A “Junior B” rower is defined as anyone who will be 16 years old or younger through December 31, 20010. Anyone turning 17 before the end of the year is ineligible for this camp.
- All rowers who attend this camp must be able to attend the Club National Regatta in Oak Ridge, TN July 14-18, 2010.
- The estimated cost for this regatta is $1,500. This number will fluctuate depending on the number of kids attending the regatta, actual airfare expense and gas prices. This estimated price does included the cost of practice leading up to the regatta.
- The SRA Junior B camp is a selection camp, and rowers must attend a 4-day tryout period. At the end of this tryout period coaches will announce which rowers have been selected to attend the camp and participate in the Club Nationals regatta. This decision will be based on a number of factors including erg scores, sculling and sweep technique, attitude and the number of kids trying out.
- The practice schedule is as follows:
o June 1 – June 4: TRYOUT PERIOD- 3:30-6:00pm
o June 7 – June 25: Practice from 3:30-6:00pm
o June 28 – July 13: Practice from 5:00-7:00am
o July 14-18: Club Nationals Regatta, Oak Ridge, TN
- The cost for the tryout period is $30. Anyone wishing to try out MUST register here! The rest of the fees will be collected before the regatta (payment plans available.)
- All Junior B contenders must have rowed for the SRA Junior Competitive Team (novice or experienced OK) in the Spring of ’10.
This camp is a great way for our younger athletes to get focused training from our coaches and develop their skills and fitness for the upcoming seasons! Please don’t hesitate to contact Registration@srarowing with any questions.
